Comparative Advantage

In the course of my summer reading, I was reminded of Adam's Smith concept of Comparative Advantage, "Focus on those things you do better than others." I like it because it is a straightforward strategy which can be applied in the corporate world and to one's personal life eg in the course of setting one's career or life goals and I believe it is one which can be easily overlooked or ignored. Just thought I would share it, in case it provokes some thinking on your part, as it has on mine.

My new favourite web site is (Women on the Web). I believe it is aimed squarely at my demographic, women over 40, since so many of the postings resonate with me, so much so that I am tempted every day to send more than one of them to various friends, despite my promises to cease and desist. Its founders and contributors include gossip columnist Liz Smith, journalist Lesley Stahl, writer and author Joan Juliet Buck, actress Candice Bergen (whose character I adore on Boston Legal, except for her seeming affection for the character played by Tom Selleck) and comediennes and actresses Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin. Blog Worth Reading!!

Mark McQueen, president and CEO of Wellington Financial LP in Toronto, started in 2006 and it's worth reading. In particular, his blog yesterday about the Bear Stearns "bailout" puts the credit crunch in an interesting historical context.
