What would I do if I weren’t afraid?

By Janet Graham - Last updated: Thursday, January 9, 2014

I stole the above question from Sheryl Sandberg's 2011 commencement address to the graduating class of Barnard College which she talks about in the first chapter of her fabulous book "Lean In."   Sandberg ended her address to the class with the following:   "So please ask yourself: What would I do if I weren't afraid? And then go do it."   Sandberg ends the first chapter of her book with the following words:   "Writing this book is not just me encouraging others to lean in. This is me leaning in. Writing this book is what I would do if I weren't afraid."   Bravo Sheryl!!   So please ask yourself as we being the new year: "What would I do if I weren't afraid? And then go do it."   I dare ...

My Christmas Wish!!

This year has been an exciting one for me!!   I have sold more than 2,250 copies of my book,  Babes on Bay Street and I have spoken about the book and the "Lessons Learned by the Babes on Bay Street" to more than 2,500 people in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Washington and places in between. It has been a wonderful year and a fabulous experience!!   I am grateful to those of you who purchased my book and to those of you who asked me to speak at an event your company or your organization was hosting. Your support meant so very much to me!!   However, I am not done yet and so I am sharing My Christmas Wish with you!!   I would like to speak ...

The title of her essay is the title of my post today "A Comprehensive Guide to Feminist Theory: 20 Essential Reads."   Elizabeth's post gave me hope too!!  You see I had convinced myself that the younger generation had lost interest in "feminism" and Elizabeth proved me wrong. She is a university student and to study and understand and write about feminist theory (which is more than I had done before declaring to the world whenever the opportunity arose that I was one, a feminist that is) gave ...

Summer Reading Suggestions

I belong to the best book club in the world (in my very humble opinion)!! Three things make it great.   1. Our club is hosted by the same wonderful woman each time we meet and she makes us a fabulous dinner every time we get together;   2. One of our club members owns Churchill's Fine Gourmet Gifts and each time we meet she brings incredibly decadent sweet treats; and   3. Our meetings are "facilitated" by the fabulous Nina McCreath one of the former proprietors of The Flying Dragon book store (where we previously had the privilege of meeting). It is Nina who really takes our club over the top!! She loves books and reading and shares her insights about the book we are ...
