A Comprehensive Guide to Feminist Theory: 20 Essential Reads

By - Last updated: Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Sheer joy.....with a little dash of pride.....was what I felt when I saw the title of an essay written by Elizabeth DiEmanuele, posted on her facebook page with the link to the essay itself. The title of her essay is the title of my post today "A Comprehensive Guide to Feminist Theory: 20 Essential Reads."   Elizabeth's post gave me hope too!!  You see I had convinced myself that the younger generation had lost interest in "feminism" and Elizabeth proved me wrong. She is a university student and to study and understand and write about feminist theory (which is more than I had done before declaring to the world whenever the opportunity arose that I was one, a feminist that is) gave ...

Interview with John Smith

Today's post is the final of three excerpts from my interview with "John Smith." John is a hugely successful participant in the Canadian securities industry and I thought his perspective on a variety of issues would be interesting to consider!! I was thrilled he agreed to be interviewed. Mentors Are Good. Sponsors Are Better.

By - Last updated: Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Lately, I have been tweeting about articles I find worthy of reading, however, I thought the article by Sylvia Ann Hewlett in Sunday's New York Times (April 14, 2013) "Mentors Are Good. Sponsors Are Better." was simply too good to miss!! In it, Ms Hewlett clearly describes the difference between a mentor and a sponsor. I believe it is important to understand the difference between them and how each of them can impact your career success. Here is the link; I encourage you to read the article and pass it on!!   http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/jobs/sponsors-seen-as-crucial-for-womens-career-advancement.html?ref=jobs&_r=0   Ps. And if you are not on twitter, I highly recommend you give it a try!!

There has been much written about Sheryl Sandberg and her book Lean In both before and after it was published early last week. In fact, I wrote about it in my last post.   A friend suggested I watch her interview on 60 Minutes a couple of days before her book was released; I thought it was great!!   Just in case you missed it, you can check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n1NAbShwLc   Please let me know what you think.
