I belong to the best book club in the world (in my very humble opinion)!! Three things make it great.   1. Our club is hosted by the same wonderful woman each time we meet and she makes us a fabulous dinner every time we get together;   2. One of our club members owns Churchill's Fine Gourmet Gifts and each time we meet she brings incredibly decadent sweet treats; and   3. Our meetings are "facilitated" by the fabulous Nina McCreath one of the former proprietors of The Flying Dragon book store (where we previously had the privilege of meeting). It is Nina who really takes our club over the top!! She loves books and reading and shares her insights about the book we are ...

I met Michelle Shemilt a couple of years ago when she invited me to speak at a Women in Capital Markets event. As these things happen, we have kept in touch ever since and for most of this time Michelle has been on a journey, in terms of her work life and career.   Michelle submitted the story of her journey to leanin.org in the hopes it would be posted. I am writing this post to alert you to the re-organization of my blog to insert a new "media" tab which covers all of my media appearances whether in Print or on the Internet or on Television or Radio.   Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the level of interest my book Babes on Bay Street and personal appearances have generated!!   I would be honoured for you to take a look at the contents of the new tab and delighted to hear what you think!!   Thank you for your continued support!!

Lately, I have been tweeting about articles I find worthy of reading, however, I thought the article by Sylvia Ann Hewlett in Sunday's New York Times (April 14, 2013) "Mentors Are Good. Sponsors Are Better." was simply too good to miss!! In it, Ms Hewlett clearly describes the difference between a mentor and a sponsor. I believe it is important to understand the difference between them and how each of them can impact your career success. Here is the link; I encourage you to read the article and pass it on!!   http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/jobs/sponsors-seen-as-crucial-for-womens-career-advancement.html?ref=jobs&_r=0   Ps. And if you are not on twitter, I highly recommend you give it a try!!
