Michelle Savoy's Bio
Michelle began her career in sales at Xerox Canada; a friend encouraged her to enter the investment business and she joined Wood Gundy, which eventually became CIBC World Markets. She spent almost twelve years at CIBC World Markets in institutional money market and fixed-income sales positions in both Montreal and Toronto. During this time she traded T-bills, ran the Montreal desks and ultimately headed global institutional fixed income and money market sales. In 1996, she retired to devote more time to her 8 month old son. Less than a year later, she began a 19-month stint at Spencer Stuart & Associates as an executive recruiter for the financial services industry. An unsuccessful search led to the client deciding that Michelle was their preferred candidate, and she started work as an institutional relationship manager with client relationship and marketing responsibilities for a Los Angeles based investment management organisation, Capital Guardian. She opened their Toronto office in 1998, was instrumental in growing their defined benifit business adding approx 75 Canadian clients. She initiated a process which led to the start-up of Capital's mutual fund business in Canada in 2002, participated in the recruitment of a new head of mutual funds, several portfolio managers and analysts, and wholesalers and relationship managers. In 2005, Michelle added the US to her management responsibilities overseeing Capital Guardian's institutional marketing and client relations activities for North America. She is currently President of Capital Guardian Canada but spends 50% of her time outside of Canada.
Michelle's family comprises one husband, one son, three step-sons, and two dogs; she is, at least so far, successfully resisting the addition of a non-venomous snake. Michelle recently concluded 10 years on the Foundation board of Invest in Kids, and is currently on the Big Brothers Big Sisters Council of Champions. Michelle has a BBA in finance and marketing from the University of Ottawa and is a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.
