Be Courageous and Take Risks

One of the lessons I learned from my interviews with the Babes is to “Be Courageous and Take Risks.”

An article in the Globe this morning, highlights this lesson. I noticed the article because of its title “Narrowing the gender wage gap” and its tagline “Young woman should be better trained in salary negotiation and income expectations if pay equity is to be achieved, experts say.”

The article tells the story of Maxime Chin, a mechanical engineering student in Vancouver who bravely made a pitch for more pay when she received an offer for a full-time job upon graduation.

I think the article is well worth reading by women (and men) of all ages and stages in their careers, not just young women (and men). After all, I believe we can all benefit by “Being Courageous and Taking Risks.”

And in case you missed last weeks column by the wonderful Barbara Moses, Nine Tips for Young Job Hunters.  I think it is a “must read” by recent graduates. You can find it by following this link:

Let me know what you think of these pieces. I would love to hear your comments!!

Just saw Maxime on a ‘Women in Science’ feature on
Global BC News over the weekend. I never thought I would ever say ‘hot’ and ‘engineer’ in the same breath, lol!

Seriously, good on her for making inroads as a professional female in a male-dominated field.
