TED Talks

I have always loved the idea of TED which was started in the mid-80s and devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading”. Its aim was to bring people together from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then, it has grown to be like a university, featuring lectures by some of the most remarkable people in the world.

TED has created TEDx in the spirit of its mission. The TEDx program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.

In 2010, TED held its first conference for women TEDWomen.

I have included some links below which represent some of the talks I have listened to lately from TEDx and TEDWomen which I thought were particularly inspiring or thought-provoking.

I loved this one from TEDxHouston by Brene Brown “The power of vulnerability”

I love Sheryl Sandberg, so I have included this one from TEDWomen “Why we have too few women leaders”

I have been sent this link by a number of women, so have included “A feminine response to Iceland’s crash” by Hanna Tomasdottir at TEDWomen.

Finally, I have included this somewhat controversial talk at TEDWomen byHanna Rosin “New data on the rise of women”.

I hope you enjoy them and would love to hear your thoughts about them! And I would be delighted to hear about the TED talks you have loved!!  Please share your comments and any recommended TED talks in the Comments section below.

Five minutes turned into fifty minutes of viewing! What a treasure chest of ideas and perspectives – worth visiting again with a glass of wine in hand.

Janet – Happy New Year! I just finished watching a TED video that Bev shared (she is definitely a TED role model) DR. Deborah Rhodes – have you seen it? Controversial as most scientific things are but really important – just wanted to share this with you. I am now hooked and will alot time each day to watching TED videos so I can get up to speed!
